Day 37: Took Stairs Instead of Elevator

Day 37: Took Stairs Instead of Elevator

I took the stairs up to my 4th floor apartment instead of using the elevator. Not only does this save energy, but also burns some extra calories as well.

According to CreativeCitizen, “Per floor (one direction, 3 meters): 2.5 Wh. That is approximately 1/2 the amount of energy it takes to recharge a cellphone battery.”

When you think about this on an individual level, the numbers aren’t that much, but if millions of people do this it adds up.

What was your simple green act for the day?

  • really cool idea! congratulations

I had a job on the 7th floor once and had to jump through loops to get a key in order to be able to use the stairwell. Everyone looked so shocked that I wanted to walk up and down the stairs instead of taking the elevator. At the time I just thought it was a great way to stay fit and get in a few mini-workouts but now I see it as a way to save resources, too.

It's funny how people react to that kind of stuff. I've been taking stairs for years and people always make comments like I'm the weird one.
