Day 58: Made Flowers Using Soda Cans

Day 58: Made Flowers Using Soda Cans

I made flowers using soda cans. Since fall has come, my roommate has taken in all of the plants on the window garden. I thought the window looked bare and wanted to give it some life.

Here’s some facts about aluminum cans from Earth911:

  • Discovered in the 1820s, aluminum is the most abundant metal on earth.
  • Tossing away an aluminum can wastes as much energy as pouring out half of that can’s volume of gasoline.
  • Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to keep a 100-watt bulb burning for almost four hours or run your television for three hours.
  • What was your simple green act for the day?

    • Karina
Drink to me is water or chocolate milk and coffee (which I buy powder to dilute in water). And the water comes from the filter. My only concern is to wash the glass / cup after use. That is, never buy any type of can or bottle of drink ready.

Very nice flowers, and a great way to reuse the cans.

My brother told me he drove all his recyclables to the city recycling center the other day. While he was there, sorting his items and placing them into the appropriate bins, a city garbage truck pulled up and took all the recyclables to the dump! Disgusting! I am still not sure what to do with this info. Should I call the city? Write a letter?

Even more disgusting is that they don't recycle at all in the town where we live, so we actually drive our beer bottles 80 miles, to contribute to the "fake" recycling center in my brother's town. I feel like a total chump!
    • Wow. It's great that you are making the effort, but horrible on the city's end. What city do they do the fake recycling in? Could you (or your brother) possibly take a photo next time you see this?
