Day 307: Made Dried Fruit

I had figs that were starting to turn bad, so I put them in the dehydrator to preserve and dry them.

Fruit that’s starting to go bad can also be made into fruit leathers and jelly.

According to the NYC Composting Program, “The average New York City household discards two pounds of organic waste each day—adding up to more than one million tons of organic material a year.”

What was your simple green act for the day?

  • I have a friend who is night manager at the local grocery store and he has agreed to let me have all the fruit and veggies I want that gets taken off the shelf. Right now I am waiting for it to cool off a bit make kiwi jelly and pineapple jam. I can't wait to go this week, I'm aiming for watermelon, dry the fruit and pickle the rind. Never hurts to ask at grocery stores!
  • That's awesome because I've seen first hand the food that gets tossed and wasted from grocery stores - http://www.365waystogogreen.co...
